It is certainly great to have made contact with you Joe. I agree with you about 11 ACR being the best assignment. I remained in service until 1989. Transitioned from Tanker to the Chemical Corps and eventually ended up as a Special Agent in the Counterintelligence Corps. I was station in Berlin and spent a Year in Saudi Arabia as the Deputy Chief of Security and Intelligence for the US Military Training Mission. Of all my assignments and mission, My fondest memories are from the Blackhorse days. We went through so much together...Cold wet nights on "50 watch" Alerts, OP Alpha and of course gunnery. Downloading service rounds service rounds from the ready rack was always fun.
I am planning on attending the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the last Border patrol at OP Alpha next April. It cost me a new kitchen and a trip to Nova Scotia for the wife, but well worth it. I haven't talked to Jackie ('Papasan") recently but I think he may be planning to go as well. Starling Cooper and Bob Bell too. Now if we could just get our hands on an M60A1, we could have some fun kicking up some border trace dust again lol.
Again it's great to hear back from you and I will definitely keep in touch.
